Abstract

This paper analyses the transient behaviour of a virtual path in a broadband ISDN network shared by two services with widely differing characteristics. The analysis brings together work on quasi-stationary distributions and work on nearly uncoupled Markov chains. Some implications for network management and performance evaluation are briefly discussed.
