Abstract

This paper relates to p-adaptive algorithms for the three-dimensional, full-wave,time-harmonic, electric field Galerkin procedure finite element method, using mixed- and/or complete-order elements. A quasi-static electric field condition for enhancing the performance of such algorithms is proposed. The condition is used to distinguish between mixed- and complete-order upgrades. A p-adaptive algorithm, driven by an explicit, residual-based error indicator, is presented. Within this algorithm, the effectiveness of the quasi-static condition is evaluated numerically by considering three common microwave engineering structures.
