Abstract

Methods of constructing a free field for measurements in a water tank with reflecting sides are analyzed. It is shown that their separation into the traditional free-field method of measurement and methods involving the conversion of the data to free-field conditions is unfounded. It is shown that it is possible to estimate the quality of the free-field conditions when calibrating an acoustic receiver using the width of the spreading band of the frequency characteristic of the radiator–receiver pair.
