Abstract

Objective To comprehensive the current status of the core competency and the relationship between core competencies and self-efficacy of clinical nurses in Stomatology Hospital. Methods A total of 632 clinical nurses were investigated via the 'Competency Inventory for Registered Nurse scale’(CIRN) and the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) in one hospital in Beijing. The relationship between the core competency and self-efficacy was analyzed. Results The core competency of nurses acquired (163.90±36.06) scores and the average score of each clause was (2.83±0.62) scores, which presented the medium level; Self-efficacy gained (26.13±5.09) scores and had a positive correlation with core competency scores (r=0.482, P<0.01); multiple regression showed the general self-efficacy has predictive effects to the core competency sores and each dimension. Conclusions Self-efficacy of nurses in stomatology hospital affects core competency in different dimensions and to improve the nurse′s self-efficacy may enhance the core competencies.
