Abstract

This paper considers the resource allocation problem for device-to-device (D2D) communication underlaying cellular networks. We consider downlink (DL) spectrum resources and takes into account different quality of service (QoS) requirements of D2D users in the resource allocation. The resource allocation problem is formulated into an integer nonlinear programming problem with the objective to maximize the number of D2D pairs whose QoS requirements are satisfied and the overall throughput gain of the system. To solve this problem, a heuristic QoS-aware resource allocation (QARA) algorithm is proposed to find an approximate solution to the problem. Simulation results show that the proposed QARA algorithm can achieve a good network performance in terms of the satisfaction ratio and overall throughput of the system as compared with an existing resource allocation algorithm for D2D communication.
