Abstract

In peer to peer overlay networks, the existing routing technique fails to address a more heterogeneous scenario, where the service provider and users are scattered across the internet. Moreover, the most research on routing aims at combining overlay routing protocol together with additional QoS mechanisms. In this paper, we propose a QoS aware reliable routing protocol for peer to peer overlay networks. When a source node wants to discover a route to destination, it performs route discovery mechanism. This technique selects the primary routing path based on the QoS metrics like packet loss, delay, bandwidth and hop count. If the primary path fails, the traffic is rerouted through backup paths. If a user requests the increased flow demand, a route restoration mechanism is executed. By simulation results, we show that the proposed approach minimises the delay and route failures while increasing the bandwidth utilisation and throughput.
