Abstract

This paper presents an effective technique for uninterrupted water pumping irrespective of insolation level. Moreover, the system is capable of adjusting the power flow as per the requirement. A sensorless direct torque control of induction motor is used to drive water pump. One VSC (Voltage Source Converter) is used for utility grid interface and one VSI (Voltage Source Inverter) is used for the induction motor control. The PV array is connected to the DC link with a power converter for providing constant DC-link voltage. The UVT (Unit Vector Template) theory is utilized to control the bidirectional power flow between the three-phase VSI and DC link voltage connecting an induction motor drive coupled water pump on the other end. The suitability of the system is shown through various power transfer modes of operation and are validated on prototype developed in the laboratory.
