Abstract

Steady-state compressible lubrication solutions are revisited. In this paper, problems with gas bearings of infinite width are formulated by the p-version finite element method ( p-FEM) in conjunction with the Newton-Raphson iteration procedure. Numerical examples show that the current p-FE formulation is an accurate FE scheme for solving compressible lubrication problems, and that, even for high bearing number cases (Λ > 1000) and coarse grids, the scheme converges rapidly.
