culosis service at the Anoka State Hospital has been responsible for the treatment of over 1200 patients. These have been drawn from the ten hospitals in the Minnesota State Mental Hospital system, as well as from the state reformatory and prison system. This group of patients has been treated during a period when rapid changes in methods of therapy were taking place. There have also been marked changes in the type of disease seen over this 13-year period. The results of surgery in this therapy program has been reported by Lewis and associates,”2 Perry and colleagues3 and Mowlem and co-workers.4 There have been no studies, however, on the entire group of patients and no assessment of the surgical results since 1958. Periodic review of this group of tuberculosis patients in the past has allowed us to define more exactly the correct approach to various types of disease. However, the problem of dealing with data concerning 1200 patients and the desirabilityof developing a permanent record system led to the selection of the punch card method for tabulationof data.
