Abstract

By the presence of a public health nurse in the pediatrician's office, the quality, effectiveness, and comprehensiveness of care to ambulatory children and youth was expanded through the specific services of the pediatrician and the public health nurse complementing each other. The project nurse made a valuable contribution to improve health services by engaging in counseling, guidance, and teaching efforts to a group of the population which has a potential for health prevention. She was able to do this in the private pediatrician's office and also in the home environment, serving as a liaison between the community agencies, the family, and the pediatrician. Professional health workers need to explore and develop new programs in delivering health services in new community settings with the goals of promoting and maintaining a higher level of health and wellness in the individual, the family, and the community.
