Abstract

RAD8 was a two-dimensional treatment planning system that ran on a PDP-8 minicomputer. As RAD8 used a great deal of measured beam data and the Oncology Support System used a sophisticated beam model, it was decided to move the system on to a PC in order not to lose access to these valuable data. In the present work, details are presented of program enhancements, implementation, performance, hardware required, system limitations, algorithms used, beam data entry, patient data entry and availability.
