Abstract
In view of the failure of all currently proposed models (and in particular those supposing a q q interaction arising from the exchange of vector and scalar fields only) to simultaneously account for all the measurements of the fine structure splitting of χ states in the charmonium and bottomonium systems we report here the results of a simple attempt to fit these measurements by introducing a pseudoscalar field. In a model with a minimal number of parameters we are able to agree with all fine structure measurements.
