Abstract

Deep narrow band imaging of a field around radio galaxy PKS 1138-262at z = 2.16 has yielded over 50 candidate Lyα emitting galaxies at similar redshift. Subsequent observations has led to the spectroscopical confirmation of 15 galaxies in the redshift range2.16 ±0.02, within a projected distance of 1.5 Mpc from the radio galaxy. These observations suggest that radio galaxies at high redshift, like 1138-262, are located in the progenitors of present-day massive clusters.
