Abstract
In the DC distribution network, the ability of the converters to withstand overcurrent is very poor. When a fault occurs in the DC line, the converter protection and line protection cannot be easily coordinated, making it difficult to ensure selective fault removal. This paper investigates protection for the DC distribution line connected with the DAB converter. First, a fault current limiting scheme for the DAB converter using phase shifting and constant current control is proposed. Then a protection scheme for the DC distribution line based on the similarity of the fault currents flowing on both sides of the line is proposed. The effectiveness of the fault current limiting control scheme and the protection scheme is verified in PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.
