Abstract

Introduction: Injury/illness has the potential to prevent pre-elite athletes progressing to be elite. Pre-elite athletes are at increased risk of injury/illness due to a rapid increase in training load, insufficient rest and recovery, growth and a lack of support services compared to elite athletes. Pre-elite athletes often have competing demands between sports, school sport, club and representative commitments with minimal support to manage individual training loads. The first stage of the ‘Translating Research into Prevention Practice’ (TRIPP) model of prevention is quality injury surveillance. The aim of this study was to record incidence, site, nature and cause of injury/illness at the 2018 17/U & 19/U Australian Netball National Championships (ANNC).
