Abstract

Unlike his method of composition in poetry, Thomas wrote prose very rapidly. He thought it less important than his poetry, but throughout his career his prose composition was closely linked with his development as a poet. The prose work is made up of the following: early stories, some of which were included in The Map of Love; Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog; Under Milk Wood; broadcast talks, which were published under the title, Quite Early One Morning; some later stories, included in A Prospect of the Sea; Adventures in the Skin Trade, an unfinished novel; several film scripts, one of which, The Doctor and the Devils, has been published in book form; and, finally, a large collection of letters, including the volume, Letters to Vernon Watkins. The early prose, written up to 1939, includes the early stories, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog, and the first chapter of Adventures in the Skin Trade, entitled A Fine Beginning.KeywordsNatural LifeTear RootGreen PetalEarly StorySupernatural WorldThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
