Abstract
The design of antenna arrays is one of the most challenging optimization problems in recent research work. In this paper a new computational algorithm is proposed for synthesizing the radiation pattern of linear antenna arrays. The proposed computational algorithm is based on parallel processing of streams of binary digits, and hence it can perform well in parallel processing digital systems. The optimization technique used in this algorithm is based on “Characteristics Evolution Optimization” method. In this paper, a 16 - element linear antenna array has been taken into consideration, and the performance of the proposed algorithm for synthesizing the radiation pattern of the array is investigated and compared with other existing techniques, such as Differential Evolution (DE), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Invasive Weed Optimization (IWO). Other forms of Invasive Weed Optimization are investigated as well. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the other optimization techniques in different aspects.
