Abstract

A proposal consisting of four recommendations is presented to improve some of the shortcomings of the seismic torsional provisions in the National Building Code of Canada 1980. The first two changes will improve the torsional moment estimates for buildings with small and large ecentricities, taking the effect of modal coupling into account. The second two proposed changes clarify the limitations of the static code provisions.
