Abstract

Two new quantities, a projector loss and a hydrophone loss, are described. These have been found useful in evaluating the performance of sonar transducers. Each is a true transmission loss. Each has been so specified that it is contiguous to other transmission losses normally identified with portions of a sonar system, including the water, which may adjoin the transducer. Convenient and simple relations between these losses and other characteristics of the transducer are noted.
