Abstract

A short-time DFT (discrete Fourier transform) syllabic compander is proposed. Envelopes are detected by using the instantaneous spectrum instead of using the approximation of the AM demodulation. The short-time DFT compander is discussed with emphasis on operation in the frequency domain. Multirate sampling is employed to speed up analysis in the short-time DFT compander with almost no degradation. >
