Abstract
SUMMARY. — In connection with a recent symposium (Paris, june 1974) the author reviews, corrects and augments the principal biographical notices published on Sadi Carnot. Having found unpublished documents (baptismal record, death certificate and notice of inheritance) the author shows the opposition of the younger brother Hippolyte to divulge the fact that Sadi died in an insane asylum. The author also points out the role of the chemist Adolphe Carnot, Sadi's nephew, in a later publication of the manuscript notes.
