Abstract
The additive identity of the components of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility tensor is given by the expression χ (3) xxxx = χ (3) xxyy + χ (3) xyxy + χ (3) xyyx . A simple and straightforward proof of it, is proposed, using a CARS (coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering) polarization vector, and decomposing it in a chosen frame of reference.
