Abstract

A year ago I outlined [Iselin. 1937] the new cooperative investigation that is being conducted by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Bermuda Biological Station. This investigation has as its ultimate goal the solution of the problem of whether or not gradual changes in the strength of the Gulf Stream System have any bearing on the climate and fishery of Great Britain. In an article soon to appear in “Nature” the program of observations that will be carried out during the 5‐year period for which funds are available has been discussed more fully. However, one suggestion contained in that report is perhaps worthy of further treatment at the present time.
