Abstract
The realisation that India had a need for a well developed rural newspaper prompted RIND to take up the challenge to establish a project for the rural press in Karnataka. Initial setbacks were overcome and the first newspaper under the project was launched in May 1986. The paper is proving to be a success both in terms of readership and economic viability. It “has quickly established credibility and relevance in the area and among the people it seeks to serve.”
