Abstract

The Edison System is a software system written by Brinch Hansen. It was originally done for a PDP-11 computer, but is now available for the IBM PC and compatibles and consists of:• an operating system,• an operating system kernel,• editor,• Edison language compiler,• an assembler for the Alva assembly language,• a program for document formatting,• some miscellaneous utility programs.Except for the operating system kernel, which is written in Alva assembly language, all of these programs are written in the Edison language. Complete information on the Edison System and Edison Language for the PDP-11, which is nearly identical to the IBM PC system, can be found in the book, Programming A Personal Computer , by Per Brinch Hansen [BRI 1982].
