Abstract
The use of haunches is common practice in the design of steel frames and it is well known that their presence has favourable effects upon both the behaviour and cost of frames. Yet the presence of these haunches is not usually taken into account in the analysis, either elastic or plastic. This paper studies, by the use of a quadratic optimization algorithm, the effect of haunches in the plastic analysis of frames.
