Abstract

Annie M. G. Schmidt, the most recent winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, is a children's author from the Netherlands. Her stories and poems have been the delight of Dutch children and adults for many decades. Excerpts from a recent interview with Annie M.G.Schmidt reveal the meaning of this award to her. In spite of Annie Schmidt's long‐standing reputation worldwide for her many excellent children's poems and stories, few of her works have been translated into English. This lack of exchange between countries of meritorious children's literature is a persistent difficulty in our field.
