Abstract

An education information librarian, a government documents librarian, and an instructional designer collaboratively developed a lesson plan to engage researchers with open educational resources (OER). They selected and curated freely available, online United States federal government documents on topics that would engage their audience. During the lesson, they wanted to inspire workshop attendees to become researchers through a collaborative group project and share this lesson plan with students and library patrons. This article will describe the process used to collect resources, develop the lesson plan, and assess engagement of participants during seven workshops. These face-to-face and virtual workshops were given to educators and librarians from K-12 through the university level.
