Abstract

SUMMARYIn this work, a probability model is developed to calculate the average properties for the further stepwise polymerization of prepolymers. M͞n, M͞w, M͞z and M͞z+1 of the resulting polymer formed by the further polymerization of two A‐B prepolymers are derived as functions of the average properties of two reacting prepolymers and the conversion of the reaction. The developed model can be extended to derive other higher average molecular weights. This approach provides a useful scheme for obtaining the desired average properties of the resulting polymer from the average properties of two reacting prepolymers, instead of their complete distributions.
