Abstract

A compact printed ultra-wideband antenna with stable radiation properties operating at VHF/UHF band is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth characteristics for VSWR≤3 of about 118.5%, ranging from 220 MHz to 860 MHz. In addition, the proposed antenna not only can provide the omnidirectional pattern in H-plane, but also can keep the direction of the radiation pattern in E-plane near the horizon plane. Furthermore, the physical dimension of this proposed printed antenna is 0.29λL×0.06λL (λL is the longest wavelength in the operating bands in free space). This novel monopole antenna has several advantages of ultra-wideband, a compact size, low fabrication cost, and omnidirectional H-plane radiation patterns, which are very suitable for various broadband applications.
