Abstract

This paper advances that the comprehensive protection of religious freedoms is largely contingent on the freedoms of thought and conscience, together with the concomitant freedoms of speech and association in Australia. It is argued that if the above freedoms are adequately legislated, then the law will better protect religious freedoms in Australia for a number of reasons as will be discussed.
