A preventive community psychiatry project and its relationship to psychoanalytic principles.

Abstract

In this preliminary report, I have referred to the need which is being presented to the psychiatric community. Educators are willing to assume part of the burden, as indeed it is their responsibility to do. But they are asking for help in the sharpening of their skills so that they may be more effective in their work. This prevention program is aimed at offering this help by means of a demonstration of basic approaches which may be used in parent groups. It is still too early for an objective evaluation to be made, but responses from educators and from the parents themselves, are suggestive of effectiveness.
