Abstract

Prior to institution of treatment, 18 cases of bladder carcinoma have been studied using a new triple contrast technique. Fourteen of these cases were confirmed by surgery or at autopsy. Our findings in this small series have been studied and certain provisional criteria established for the pretreatment staging of bladder carcinomas. Together with the usual clinical methods of staging, we feel this procedure offers a useful tool for the confirmation of clinical findings and may, in certain instances, afford an even more accurate method for the pretreatment staging of bladder carcinomas. It should be emphasised that the definitive criteria for triple contrast staging awaits accumulation of a larger series of cases and statistical analysis of the findings.
