Abstract

Vehicle Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a new technology in inter-vehicle communication. It has a dynamic topology which always changes in every time. A VANET's topology consists of many clusters and each cluster consist a cluster head. The dynamic topology can influence the cluster stability because the cluster head can always be changed. In a random situation, the system must select the best cluster head quickly to maintain the connection to the roadside unit. There are several algorithms that suitable in the VANET environment. In this paper, we provide a comparison to find the fastest algorithm that can be used in VANET. We tested them in many conditions of the traffic load, starting from the low traffic until the roads jammed condition. Three algorithms are evaluated, they are PSO, BAT, and MFO. The emphasis of this evaluation is finding the fastest convergence time. It is the one parameter that can contribute to becoming the fastest algorithm.
