Abstract
A theoretical prediction model is developed to estimate the in-flight velocity, temperature and size of a particle during plasma and HVOF spraying. The salient features of this model are outlined and the model predictions are examined through some example calculations performed under typical spraying conditions. Comparison with experimental data reveals that the present method enables accurate predictions. The principal advantages and shortcomings of the plasma and HVOF systems are also discussed based on the model estimates.
