Abstract

A precision air delivery system was adapted for use with insect olfactometers where a regulated low flow rate is desirable. The system employs hypobaric flow regulated by a barostat tower and a series of capillary flowmeters. Air flow is regulated by a balance of pressures on either side of the capillary. The regulated air flow is fed through Teflon lines to the olfactometer chambers. Flow-rate adjustments ranging from 5 ml to 5 liter/min can be made by changing the pressure on the system through the barostat tower or by changing the size of the capillary.
