Abstract

The development of a digitally-controlled acoustic microscope facility is described that spans the decade frequency range from 10 to in excess of 100 MHz. In this initial implementation, a 12.7 mm focal length system with instantaneous frequency range of 16-45 MHz was evaluated. Lateral scanning and axial translation provide imaging and acoustic material signature (AMS) information, respectively, via color TV monitor display or hard copy output. Initial quantitative results of NDE multimode AMS characterization of a Cu-layer on fused quartz layered structure as well as other AMS and imaging results are reported.
