The extraordinary quality of the 7.3 A map of the Bam35 virus (Laurinmaki et al., 2005; this issue of Structure) allows analysis of the relationship between lipid bilayer curvature and transmembrane protein location, and highlights its conserved structural features with membrane bacteriophage PRD1.
