Abstract

A practical guide to implementation of a cardiac rehabilitation program is presented, as experienced at the Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School Cardiovascular Health Center.The role, responsibilities, and knowledge base for nurse specialists in a hospital-based cardiac rehabilitation and preventive cardiology program are described. Exercise training is the aspect of the program in which nurse specialists play a most important role as coordinators, and their contributions in the four phases of cardiac rehabilitation are delineated.
