Abstract

This paper proposes an approach to calculate available transfer capability (ATC) for AC/DC systems taking transient stability constraints into account. The ATC calculation is modeled as the maximizing electric load increase of receiving region, subject to equality constraints and inequality constraints of the DC system and the AC system. The power transfer between the sending region and the receiving region is increased continuously until the limitation of some device is reached under various anticipated faults. The hybrid systems can include either two-terminal DC system or multi-terminal DC systems. The impacts of the DC system under different control modes on the AC system are analyzed from the point of the whole interconnected system operation. The practical example Shandong Power System is used to test, the results show that the method can be used to calculate and analyze ATC of practical power system and easy to be programmed.
