Abstract

Although this issue will be read in the depths of winter it is compiled just after the summer. I spent my summer holiday in the Algarve, where I was not only able to familiarise myself with what my wife and children look like, but I was also able to discover a whole new medical speciality: “Anti-ageing Medicine!” An article in the Central Algarve magazine extolled the benefits of an anti-ageing consultation with an anti-ageing specialist. Apparently, tiredness, painful joints, anxiety, depression and lack of libido should not be ignored. A whole team of nutritionists, allergists, physiotherapists, physicians and surgeons were waiting to investigate me. They were prepared to leave no stone unturned until they had explored the full extent of my symptoms (or the full extent of my bank account). Luckily the mere act of being on holiday cured most of my complaints and allowed me to return to Scotland un-investigated, but nevertheless rejuvenated.
