Abstract
Proximal venous outflow obstruction (PVOO) in the iliocaval veins is frequently suspected after history and physical examination. A simple, noninvasive test that can indicate if PVOO is present, prior to more invasive imaging, would be very helpful but is currently unavailable. We undertook this study to determine if pulsed-wave Doppler (PW) can signify PVOO. PW is known to indicate proximal occlusion when it does not exhibit any respiratory variations. Does PW exhibit any clues when the proximal vein is stenotic but not occluded?
