Abstract

Online social networks have been an additional, if not the only, forum for us to reach new friends by friend recommendation mechanisms as information technology has advanced. Friend recommendation frameworks use a number of methods and algorithms to propose a potential friend. They can, however, start slowly at the start of a recommendation framework or when a new node is created. With the advent of recommendation systems many issues came to the fore. One of those issues is depression. Isolation is one of the primary causes of depression, and a node with no friends, referred to as a lonely node in a social network, may become depressed. This paper proposes a friend recommendation system that acts as a deterrent to depression caused due to loneliness by decreasing loneliness of lonely nodes of the network.
