Abstract

The concept of the two-proton (pp) cluster with a short range correlation ( δ c = 0.6–0.7 fm), which is useful to explain the cumulative effect of backward pions and protons produced in hadron-nucleus collisions, is exploited to improve the Koonin's pp interferometry formula. A comparison of data in π −12C collisions at 40 GeV/c and Ar + KC1 collisions at 1.8 GeV/A with the modified Koonin formula are made. In the latter process, a larger interaction size results from our formula.
