Abstract
Abstract A portable aluminum restraint cradle for handling large salmonids (Oncorhynchus spp.) in freshwater has been used in Alaska since 1984. The cradle is padded inside to reduce scale loss and is effective for salmonids 50–130 cm fork length. Use of the cradle eliminates the need for chemical or electrical anesthesia and expedites handling of salmonids for biological sampling. Mortality associated with the cradle appears negligible.
