Abstract

In this paper, we propose a constitutive model for describing the poroviscoelastic behavior of fluid-saturated porous solids at finite strains. Rather than a viscous incompressible solid skeleton as assumed in previous works, a viscous compressible solid skeleton is considered in this research. To show the poroviscoelastic effect, we apply the model to the study of the classical Terzaghi’s one-dimensional consolidation problem and compare the numerical results with those from poroelasticity. From the numerical results, the secondary consolidation behavior induced by the creep of the porous solid can be observed. Besides, it is shown that the creep of the solid skeleton causes the delay of pore pressure diffusion.
