Abstract
AbstractA planar Marchand balun for wideband performance is presented. The two sections of quarter‐wavelength parallel‐coupled lines are etched in the bottom ground layer for a higher coupling coefficient. In the top metal layer, the additional compensation‐transmission‐line Trace is designed between the two balanced ports to decrease the imbalances. Two different frequency band circuits Balun A&B have been simulated and fabricated to verify the design method of this letter. The results of simulation and measurement show that the balun structure can achieve high amplitude and phase stability over a wide frequency band (the Balun A is from 1.5 to 4.8 GHz, with the relative bandwidth of 104.7% and the Balun B is from 2.3 to 7.3 GHz, with the relative bandwidth of 104.1%.
