Abstract
Background: The increased expression of 3 proteins related to glycolytic metabolism, glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1), lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA), and monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4), is associated with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) metastasis and recurrence [1,2]. Ameloblastomas, odontogenic myxomas (OMs), and keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOTs) are clinically aggressive, benign odontogenic neoplasms that frequently invade adjacent tissues and often demonstrate high post-operative recurrence rates despite adequate surgical margin resectioning. These observations suggest growth mechanisms in benign odontogenic tumors that resemble those of malignant tumors.
