Abstract

Cytokine-mobilized peripheral blood (MPB) has become the preferred allograft source for patients with advanced hematological malignancies. Procurement of MPB currently requires from 5 to 6 days of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) administration and is associated with donor morbidity and high cost. Recent studies suggest G-CSF induces mobilization by indirectly targeting the interaction between the chemokine stromal derived factor 1 (SDF-1) and its receptor CXCR-4. Here we report preliminary results using a direct antagonist of the SDF-1/CXCR-4 interaction, AMD3100, as a single agent to procure MPB from allogeneic donors in only 1 or 2 days.
