Abstract

This paper presents an experimental investigation on vibration control using anactive mount activated by piezostack actuators. After describing the schematicconfiguration and operational principle of the proposed active mount, dynamiccharacteristics of the rubber element and the piezostack are experimentally identified. Anactive mount is then manufactured using a rubber element and two piezostackelements. Prior to validating vibration control of the proposed active mount, fundamental characteristics such as resonant frequency, deflection at rated load, strength, shock and fatigue characteristics are experimentally investigated. Atwo-degree-of-freedom control system in which an active mount is installed with asupported mass of 100 kg is established for evaluating vibration control performance. Inorder to actively attenuate the vibration transmitted from the base excitation(50–1000 Hz), a negative velocity feedback controller is experimentally realized. Controlresponses such as mass acceleration are evaluated in both frequency and timedomains.
